Members shared their experiences with sharp stabbing intestinal pain, with many describing conditions like IBS, gastritis, GERD, and endometriosis that cause intense abdominal discomfort ranging from minutes to weeks at a time. Several members offered practical strategies including taking medications like Buscopan, Pepcid, Prilosec, and Zofran, following specialized diets such as gastroparesis or gluten-free plans, eating small bland meals to reduce stomach stress, using heating pads, and considering birth control pills or Depo-Provera shots to stop periods and reduce endometriosis-related pain. A recurring theme was the critical importance of seeing specialists rather than general practitioners, particularly for endometriosis, and using mindfulness techniques to manage pain when it flares, with members expressing solidarity over how these conditions profoundly impact daily life.

I'm so sorry you have this problem. Ive had IBS, chronic gastritis, GERD & Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) for years but the fibro caused the gastritis to change into non-functional dyspepsia. Basically this is when the fibro is preventing the nerves & muscles in the stomach lining from functioning properly and/or causing it to hurt without any outside influence (just because fibro can). It doesnt take much for me to have severe stomach pain (sharp, achy, etc), nausea/vomiting, reflux, indigestion, food isnt digested properly, stomach is slow to empty, gas & bloating, etc & as a bonus these symptoms usually trigger a migraine. My gastro has me follow a gastroparisis diet, that is also gluten free & dairy free, eating small bland meals & decaf non carbonated drinks. Eating small meals really does help because of the weight of the food in your stomach. Your stomach is probably tender/sore & inflamed so the less weight you put in it the less stress it will be under. Also trying to fast doesnt help, your stomach will hurt then too. I take pepcid & prilosec twice a day, carafate & usually gaviscon four times a day and Zofran, Rolaids & gas pills as needed (usually atleast once a day). Sometimes it helps to put a heating pad on my abdomen. My gastro tried me on Cymbalta (the accepted method of treatment for this) but I can't take it. My therapist is working with me teaching me how to control my reaction to the pain by using different mindfulness exercises such as concentrating on a part of my body that isnt hurting, doing a body scan (concentrating on relaxing each part of my body), meditation/prayer, etc. When I am having a flare in my stomach I try my best to keep calm because it will only get worse if I get upset.

Good Luck & God Bless,
LizzyT

I was misdiagnosed and treated for endometriosis. I eventually went and had a hysterectomy done with an endo specialist (absolutely do NOT see any regular gynecologist for it, a specialist is the only way to go) and yeah, no endo... just a very angry uterus. I was 27. Surgery helped me with my pain, but I still find it hard to cope with. It was after my surgery that my fibromyalgia symptoms started but I just assumed it was my body healing from my surgery. Nope. I feel like I basically had surgery to get my life back and replaced one pain for another.

The endo caused me pain all the time too. 2 weeks before your period, you ovulate which makes the pain flare up too. I dont know why we hurt the whole month though. Try talking to your doctor about using bc pills or depo to stop your periods. that should stop your pain. Let me know if it helps. hugs
