I have been on Lyrica 75 mg. 2x a day and want to taper off. My Dr. has no idea how to do this. I've been in the ER 2 times already. Started taking it in July, he has me on Nueronten one day and Lyrica another day. the day after the non-Lyrica day is awful. What is the right way to taper off?

Members shared personal experiences and practical advice for someone struggling to taper off Lyrica after their doctor offered unclear guidance and two ER visits due to severe withdrawal symptoms. Several members recommended gradual dose reduction strategies, such as decreasing by half a pill every few days, switching to once-daily dosing before tapering further, or extending the timeline over several months to minimize discomfort. A recurring theme was the importance of advocating firmly with doctors who may not fully understand the severity of withdrawal, avoiding cold-turkey cessation, and recognizing that while Lyrica and Gabapentin are chemically similar, individual responses vary widely in both effectiveness and side effects.

I was told by a doctor that chemically Lyrica and Gabapentin are similar in structure. Unless you are being weaned off one to be on the other I can’t see any reason to be on both even if it’s alternating days.

When I wanted to stop Gabapentin awhile back, my dr. told me to drop down like to 1 pill/day for several days, then drop the other pill. If they are pills rather than capsules, cut the pill in half, and go down by 1/2 pill each time, taking the new regimen for at least 3 days before cutting back again.

I am NOT a doctor. The best thing to do is to talk to you doctor about it. A lot of meds give you very bad reactions if you drop them cold-turkey, so please don't do that!

i was on the gabapentin and it did nothing for my pain. i am taking the lyrica 150mg twice a day and my pain is manageable. I also added extra strength tylenol. I have a muscle relaxer and tramadol for severe pain. I have sciatica pain and 3 bulging discs so I am to the point in my life where whatever eases the back pain I will take. I am so tired of being in constant pain. Some days are worse than others. I cant clean my house the way I want done. Washing a few dishes puts me in a chair for 20min before I can do more. We are downsizing so we can rent the house out and live in the camper. I should be able to take care of 32ft of space. the hardest being changing the bed.

I've never taken Lyrica, but I think that's the one that is awful. also causes weight gain, I understand.

I take Gabapentin. I went off it once but started it again as it really helps my sciatica pain. I have no bad effects from it.
