I have been taking gabapentin for 4 months, I told my specialist that I don’t think it was helping that much at my follow up yesterday. At first he said to stop gabapentin and take lyrica. 15 seconds later he stated he wants me to take both gabapentin and lyrica at the same time. Once I got home, I got worried about taking the 2 together. Anyone else been prescribed lyrica and gabapentin combined? If so, what are your thoughts?
I think your best bet is to ask your pharmacist they know about drug interactions more so than some of the doctors
I was a nurse and NEVER gave both at once! They both lower your seizure threshold
2nd opinion for sure! Mine is NO, don’t take both at once
I asked my dr. at the pain clinic about switching from gabapentin straight back to Lyrica and they said that I would have to taper off one to start the other. I haven't changed yet because my last taper went badly. I read about people that do it and that take both at the same time by dr.s orders, but I guess it depends on the dr. I would be nervous about taking them at the same time. A second opinion might be good. I have had dr.s lead me the wrong way before.
Kinda stupid as they are both pregabalin... avoid lyrica and use other methods of treating pain. Diet, stress management, physio/massage, pain acceptance.. There's so much we can do that is not pharmaceutical. Turmeric is amazing.
I am not sure why he would do that, seeing how they are the same. Gabepintien is called poormans Lyrica. There are so many side effects with both.
