Members shared a wide range of remedies for painful muscle spasms in the neck, shoulders, hands, and buttocks, with the most frequently mentioned solutions being muscle relaxants (such as diazepam, tizanidine, and baclofen), magnesium supplements (often 400mg daily), and alternating heat and cold therapy. Several members described practical DIY approaches including homemade rice heating pads, TENS units for targeted relief, essential oils like rosemary, massage of trigger points, and stretching exercises that gently mobilize the neck and shoulders. A recurring theme was that traditional pain pills rarely help fibromyalgia-related muscle pain, so members emphasized staying hydrated, doing water-based exercises like aquafit or aqua yoga, and using muscle relaxers strategically at bedtime to manage symptoms without daytime drowsiness.

Also. I use a Tens unit on my shoulders and butt muscles when they are so tight I want to cry and its not bedtime - so no muscle relaxant.

Muscle relaxers at bed time, you will be drowsy the next morning. Plus drink plenty of water through out the day.

I can so relate to this. I agree that pain pills are useless for most of our pain. I do take muscle relaxers as needed and I get massages which seems to help. I did request them from my doctor.

Speaking of hands, I recently started a pain journal and just writing down a few things per day, the pain in my hands is unreal just from writing. Good thing we don't have to write much due to this technology age because I couldn't do it. For me writing is much worse than the typing I do daily.

I get muscle spasms in shoulders, neck and arms. I made homemade heating pads. Take a tube sock and fill it loosely with white rice and knot it at the top.. Heat in microwave for about 2 minutes till its hot. I put it on the back of my neck and it feels so good. You can roll the rice around and massage the area as well as add heat. Hugs to you.
