Are you experiencing internal spasms or sensations that don't feel like typical muscle spasms?

Many people with fibromyalgia describe unusual internal sensations that can feel like twitches, jerks, or strange feelings inside the body. These experiences are often related to how fibromyalgia affects the nervous system.

One MyFibroTeam member shared: "I've been having a lot of muscle twitches in the past week just as I begin to fall asleep. I feel scared as I'm falling into sleep, then this twitch or jerk or weird sensation keeps me awake with pain again."

These sensations may be connected to:

* Central sensitization - Your nervous system becomes extra sensitive and can misinterpret normal signals as uncomfortable or painful sensations
* Sleep disruptions - Brain activity during sleep can cause unusual sensations or jerks
* Neurotransmitter imbalances - Disrupted brain chemicals like serotonin and dopamine can affect how your body processes sensations

Some people also describe "internal jitters" or anxiety-like physical sensations. One member mentioned: "Anxiety and internal jitters are driving me crazy lately."

If these sensations are interfering with your sleep or daily life, it's worth discussing them with your healthcare provider. They can help determine if there's an underlying sleep disorder or if adjustments to your treatment plan might help.

Yes I get these all the time along with various others. They are such strange feelings. Sometimes reminds me of the scarabs from the mummy film!

I get small spasms in my legs, and you can actually see some of them, at least, feel them with your hand. So strange! I feel like there’s an alien trying to escape 🤣🤣🤣
