Ugh, that sounds really miserable — you're definitely not alone in this! Fibromyalgia can cause some surprisingly intense and strange sensations in the head and face area, including sharp, stabbing pains.
Fibromyalgia affects the central nervous system, which means pain signals can get amplified and show up in unexpected places — including around the eyes and ears. The head and face are actually common areas for fibromyalgia-related pain. Tender points and nerve sensitivity can cause sharp, stabbing sensations that feel very real and very intense — because they are!
Some areas commonly affected include:
- Jaw and cheek muscles
- The sides of the neck
- The base of the skull
- The face
These can all contribute to pain that radiates toward the eyes and ears.
It's worth bringing these specific symptoms up with your doctor, especially the eye stabbing, to rule out anything that needs direct attention. Managing fibromyalgia's nerve sensitivity through your current treatment plan may also help reduce these episodes.

Trevor, Yes, in fact mine is playing up this week.
It is nerve pain I am sure.
I notice weather changes affect Fibro.
Hang in there and it will be in your feet next, as mine is.

I have the stabbing in my eyes, TM joint problems and times when I’m hoping that I’ll have another stroke in my sleep but not wake up. Those days don’t come often or stay long, thank goodness! My feet and legs are off limits for anyone to touch! I have neuropathy in my legs and I have a terrible scar on my left leg after a fall down some marble stairs that sliced my legs open. It’s painful to even touch it.

Sounds awful. I hope you both feel better soon.
