Hi everyone, I’m frustrated because I’m the heaviest I have ever been. I think it’s due to my medicines, stress and then trying to diet twice. Exercise is hard, I try to walk 1/2 mile a day. Also, I love to cook and love sweets. I struggle with motivation and commitment. Does anyone else struggle too?

Members connected over the frustration of weight gain tied to fibromyalgia medications, pain, and limited mobility, with many sharing they were at their heaviest weight ever. Several members offered practical strategies that worked for them, including using free calorie-counting apps like LoseIt! to track food within a daily budget, allowing flexibility to eat favorite foods in moderation, dancing to music for just five minutes a day to build stamina, and giving themselves grace during stressful times while focusing on long-term benefits over short-term indulgences. A recurring theme was the unfairness of choosing between medication-related weight gain and pain relief, the emotional toll of changed body image, and the power of taking baby steps and celebrating small decisions as victories.

I did until about a year ago. I got up to 225 pounds and I truly believe it was making my pain worse because I was so heavy. I decided I needed to change, so I downloaded a free calorie counting app on my phone (I picked LoseIt! but there are others out there). I set a goal of 1 pound a week loss, which I thought was honestly unattainable, and started tracking everything I ate and sticking to the calorie budget. I could eat anything I wanted, as long as I didnt go way over my calorie total for the day. And it worked. I'm down morw than 50 pounds from where I was a year ago. I still have more to lose, but I feel better. I still have bad days and high pain days, but since losing the weight I no longer have "I can't get out of bed today" days, so that's something.

I do. I know some of my weight is due to medication. But than you have to decide gain weight vs.be in pain. A tough choice for us. I do walk daily. My husband loses and I gain. Men tend to lose weight easier than us. Still, not fan. It is not fair. *stomping feet* LOL

I do struggle. But you are not alone. If you ever need to vent out or talk about it feel free to leave it on my page here. I will always listen.

Big hugs
Sharon

It's a process. Baby steps are best. Think of your body as your sole responsibility and function. Would you put low grade fuel in a car? How much more important are your ever rejuvenating cells. You get 1 body in this short life.

On the other hand, I give myself permission to carb indulge during stressors like pandemics and elections. Or to reward myself for just pushing forward everyday with the complexities of fibro and life.

Overall, I remind myself of what benefits I am gaining instead of a few tastes that I am losing. And you can always taste something that you make and spit it out. You can still cook and freeze a treat and have a little at a time, it doesn't have to be drastic.

Be proud yourself. You've already made a decision and that's worth celebrating 👍🥳

I feel your frustration and pain. Weight issues with our fibromyalgia just simply because emotional and physical baggage. Ugh. I guess it is just one day at a time.
