Are you struggling with losing weight due to fibromyalgia?

Yes, many people with fibromyalgia find weight management challenging. The condition creates several obstacles that can make losing weight difficult.

Why weight loss is harder with fibromyalgia:

• Chronic fatigue makes it difficult to maintain regular exercise routines
• Muscle inefficiency means your muscles require more fuel and don't work as efficiently as they should
• Pain and exhaustion can limit physical activity
• Sleep problems and insomnia affect metabolism and energy levels
• Some medications used to treat fibromyalgia may contribute to weight changes

Why maintaining a healthy weight matters:

Research shows that having a higher body weight is linked to worse fibromyalgia symptoms. Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight can make a significant difference in managing the condition.

Strategies that may help:

• Start with short, low-intensity exercise and gradually increase duration when you can handle it
• Focus on aerobic exercise, which is specifically recommended for fibromyalgia
• Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, and unsaturated fats
• Stay hydrated and avoid simple sugars and carbs that cause energy spikes and crashes
• Consider working with a registered dietitian who can help plan meals tailored to your needs

Remember, it's okay to take things slowly and be patient with yourself during this process.

I had bariatric surgery in 2017. I lost 100lbs. Then in 2020 my Fibromyalgia took me down. Since 2020 I have gained 84lbs. My dr said its a combo of Fibro\Chronic Fatigue and the medications i take for it also cause weight gain.

I was started on Lyrica for neuropathy years ago and have gained a significant amount of weigh amount of weight from it. It has helped my neuropathy, but not my bad muscle pain from fibro. I use a stationary recumbent bike for 30 minutes 6 days a week and have hardly lost any weight even though I have a good diet.

I started a calorie controlled diet last January and I have lost 42lbs. I have hit a wall at the moment but not put any weight back on. I'm going to start indoor bike riding to see if I can get out of this plateau. Xx

I have struggled with my weight my whole life. In 2004 I had bariatric surgery and lost 90 lbs. I was very happy and thought my struggles were over. Eventually, I relaxed my new healthy habits and started gaining weight. I gained back almost all the weight. In the last 2 years I started on Semaglutide and have now lost 100 lbs. I'm very happy again. I realize I will probably have to stay on this medication for the rest of my life in order to keep the weight off.
