Go to a Rhuematogist. Get a woman doctor that knows how to treat women.
Yes! My pain mgt dr helped me a lot. He not only treated the fibro. He treated all the other physical disabilities associated with fibro. Neck and back pain. Sciatica. He put me on physical therapy. A specialist will be more helpful. Good luck!😉
My pcp takes care of my fibro treatment and she gives me gabapentin, naproxen and tramadol. It's a good combo that has been working for me so far. She had also suggested I think it was pressure points treatment. (I'm not sure if that's the name she gave me) I think my pcp is very educated and wise with this illness. I guess it will depend on your treatment and how you feel with your doctors.

I have just gone through this and have had fibro for 3 years. Alot of rheumatologist are not taking new patients that just have fibromyalgia. If you have some other sort of arthritis or something that a rheumatologist takes care if then they will accept you. I live in Iowa and have been told by two different rheumatologist that my PCP has to take care of my fibro. I go to PT and she told me since PCP's are being more educated about fibro they are able to treat. I do see a neurologist for my memory loss and headaches and a gastroenterologist for my stomach issues and spots on my liver and kidneys though. My dr has no idea though how to treat my fibro. I hope that you have better luck then me.
