Members rallied around someone expressing fear that their worsening fibromyalgia symptoms might signal something terminal, with many sharing they have also experienced feelings of dread, panic, and overwhelming exhaustion that make even basic tasks feel impossible. Several members strongly encouraged seeking help for depression, which is common with fibromyalgia, sharing their own experiences with antidepressant trials and emphasizing the importance of working with a psychiatrist to find the right medication, while one member mentioned DNA testing that can help determine how the body processes different medications. A recurring theme was the isolation many face when navigating fibromyalgia alone, whether due to divorce, lack of family support, or physical limitations, with members offering practical solutions like ordering groceries online through Walmart, leaning on pets for emotional support, and finding strength in online communities where others truly understand the daily struggle.

I agree with others that it sounds like you may be experiencing severe depression. I would highly recommend seeing a Psychiatrist to go over what treatment may be best for you. As it was mentioned previously, many of us with fibro also suffer from depression, so it is not uncommon to see a Psychiatrist or counselor in addition to a GP.

I do know that some doctors in my area are offering a DNA test that determines how your body reacts/absorbs different medications. It is my understanding that this could be helpful for people who have tried several medications that may have not worked.

Hope this helps!

Hi MaryAlicia, I am so sorry that you are going through all of this alone. Just know the people on this site are always here to help, and willing to answer any questions you might have. My experience is a little different than yours as I was already on anxiety medication for PTSD before fibro set in.

I have been extremely fortunate because my therapist fights for me. She helped get me into a specialist to assist with my medications, and was also the one that offered the DNA testing. It's unfortunate that your Psychiatrist is unwilling to help. I would recommend searching for one who understands you and your struggles.

I hope you find some relief and peace, my friend. Hugs!

Thanks to everyone for their input. It helps greatly to know that others, although I wish no one had to feel this way, are experiencing the same. All the response has given me more drive to continue. It just has gotten so exhausting and depressing with all the trial and error trying to find relief.
Gentle hugs to everyone,

Hugs Lisa, I have had fibro and myofacial pain syndrome and if that wasn't enough, they gave me 32 diseases. My family doctor is just a GP. Time for a professional. So, bless my mother, on her death bed, she promised to find a cure or at least something to take the pain away. And she did. That was Dr. Laurence in Germantown, Tennessee. It helps but I have to go for another double procedure as he has never had someone with so much wrong. Guess I am a guinea pig. Please do not stop trying, there has to be something out there. I agree, give meds a good chance such as a month. But, I have gotten to a point of being tired, tired of everything, tired of the pain, tired of taking pills. But then I look at all the pictures of my grandchildren...............I will not give up. So I did stromal cell transplants. it seems to be working. Sorry I am tired. Talk to you later.

I have been on many different ones. amitripyline worked good 20 years ago but i tried it again 6 years agp and it messed me up.
if it is not working after a month then tell your doctor to try something else. there are many that they can try and it takes about a month to see results. I think the last one I took was remeron. It is trial and error with these meds. just let your doctor know that this is not working and you feel more depressed. they should work with you to find the right one foe you. Good luck and I will add you tp my team so I can keep in touch with you.
