I have been drinking Xanax 2 mg 3x a day for 7 years since I've been seeing my psychiatrist due to my severe anxiety. He no longer is prescribing my anxiety med due to me taking hydrocodone. My regular MD gave me the Xanax but said I can't take more than 4 mg a day and I will eventually get tapered off. But at one point I tapered myself off and had no Xanax in my system and then I had a panic attack that sent me to the hospital. I knew my anxiety was so severe due to the fibromyalgia and… read more

Hi Denise, every doctor is different and each one has different reasons for the decisions they make. When I lived in western Mass, I was taking clonozapam (a drug similar to Xanax), plus oxycodone. and I was taking these for years without anyone complaining. My psychiatrist wanted to taper me off the anti-anxiety, but only suceeded in cutting the dosage in half, otherwise I'd become too anxious. Now I live where the doctors don't know me, and I can't get a prescription for the opioid or any other painkiller, for that matter. I changed doctors but won't see the new one till November. I'm lucky (i guess) that I get @lyrica and my muscle relaxant.
If I had my choice, I wouldn't be on any meds at all except the thyroid hormone (which I need to function). Unfortunately medical science hasn't gotten that far, or I'm not rich enough to travel to other countries where they have these cutting edge treatments.
My best suggestion is not to give up. There are even doctors you can reach through Skype or on-line.

@A MyFibroTeam Member yes I would like more information about this because I don't understand why after so long and I was drinking the Xanax and hydrocodone before I don't get what the big deal is now?

@A MyFibroTeam Member A I never used the word "DRUGS" due to the fact that I do not look at my medications as such. It is medication that I need for my fibromyalgia and the unbearable pain and the rest is self explanatory

@A MyFibroTeam Member, I still don't know what you mean when you say "drinking" your drugs. Is that another way of saying swallowing your pills? I am sorry to ask. I just want to know exactly what you mean. Best!!
