Alternative To Heating Pads
Most of my pain is in my back (and really really bad periods) so i use my heating pad religiously... however it has started to burn my skin. to the point my back is always blotchy and a heating pad is not pleasant to use. I cannot use ice because it just makes me stiffen up more and causes a flare. What would be some good alternatives? I do love hot baths as well but they just aren't practical between work and all of my homework.
Speaking of yoga, it bothers me, too, so I have had better luck with beginner's Tai Chi. But I bought a book called "Yoga for Fibromyalgia" by Shoosh Lettick Crotzer that is very helpful and doesn't add to my pain at all. Now I do a lot of the positions in bed and sitting up on edge of bed before I even get up in the morning and it helps my stiffness. :)
When my spine starts to ache bad i either have a hot bath or turn on the electric blanket and heat my back up that way. The cold really annoys all my aches and pains.
I find that sometimes a bag of rice, ( or a sock filled with it) etc helps me. I don't heat it up or anything, it's like the pressure takes away the deep muscle pain. I don't use it on any of my pressure-sensitives places obviously, but it helps during my menstrual cycle. A bag of homemade slime has a cooling effect that didn't stiffen me up.
My gosh why do therapists always want to add ice? Some of us may have inflammation yes but its all the other isues the ice will hurt if we use it!! Try a moist heating pad I have scars from the heating pad w/out the timer. Now I have one with a timer and use a thin towel I need to get another moist heating pad, gave the last one to mom. The electric blanket is awesome! Warm tea like Chammomile along with the blanket physical therapy and beginners yoga stretchers YouTube. Don't try beginners yoga unless you already do yoga, I said oh key me try it because I did pilates. I almost died with beginners yoga. Therapist said no " beginners yoga STRETCHES" OH WHY DIDNT YOU SAY THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! LOL! IT KINDA helps in the am to get you through the day
Get a heated mattress pad; I have used one for years, and it really helps. When a flair is bad, I get in bed and turn up my mattress pad, then cover up. I used mine every night, for fibromyalgia and worsening osteoarthritis.
