Members responding to the question about unexplained crying shared that this is a common experience, often tied to pain flares, exhaustion from overdoing activities, or the emotional weight of living with chronic illness. Several members described how physical pain, lack of support from partners or family, thyroid imbalances, stress, and anxiety all contribute to sudden tears, with one member learning from their therapist that crying without apparent reason can be a symptom of anxiety. A recurring theme was the grief and frustration of losing abilities, the struggle to pace oneself, and the deep need for understanding and compassion from loved ones and medical providers.

Dear Helen, absolutely! We have so much going on it is a wonder! I cry for what I can no longer do, I cry from frustration of a husband that does not understand, I cry from having to limit what I can do and deal with, I cry from depression and anxiety......but you are loved, never ever forget that (((hugs)))

The pain brings me to tears some days. Unfortunately, for me, crying makes the pain worse. Crying for no apparent reason is also a symptom of anxiety. I did not know this until speaking with my therapist.

Sometimes it seems like there is no explanation of my ailments. If I think of my situation with fibro or if I think about what I can't do- yes. I have to constantly remind myself that I can only do so much during the day and be satisfied with that- otherwise I get depressed and dissatisfied with myself- which doesn't help. Seems like the more things I am grateful for the better I feel.
