My friends and family don't understand and are hateful many times toward me because I say no anymore and I don't have the money to do for them like I used too. I'm getting the idea if I had not done so much for them in the past and had required that they reciprocate to me in the past they would be a whole lot more 'understanding' now. I don't coddle them though and I don't beg them to understand or beg them to care either.
What do you think ?

Members opened up about why some families understand chronic illness while others respond with blame or resentment, with many sharing that people who once relied on their help now turn hostile when they can no longer give in the same way. Several members emphasized that true understanding often comes only from those who also live with chronic pain, and they offered practical wisdom including setting boundaries without apology, limiting time with unsupportive people, seeking out compassionate community, and remembering that self-care is not selfish when you're barely able to function. A recurring theme was the grief of losing relationships and former independence, the frustration of being disbelieved by both loved ones and medical professionals, and the need to focus energy on those who truly care rather than exhausting oneself trying to convince people who refuse to understand.

Steele the statement "The constant pain grinds you into dust" wow, that hit me because it's so true! I too have a high tolerance for pain, but pain is supposed to go away and this does not. I don't cry and I don't whine at all, but I do get grouchy and short with patience and every now and then I will have a complete melt down between me and God, I pick myself up, dust off and keep going. I pray the Lord give each of us strength to withstand those hard days. Take care and God bless!

It's wonderful when people understand what we are going through, but the most important thing is to remember that you need to put yourself first because if we don't take care of ourselves we end up feeling worse and are less able to say yes to others. When people don't understand it's their problem not yours. God Bless you and have a blessed thanksgiving.

There is an old saying, "No good deed goes unpunished" .... and I think that is what is happening with your friends and family..... people get used to things and if and when it changes the first reaction is how they are affected .... sad but true with some people.

@A MyFibroTeam Member funny I just wrote a note on your wall and just came back to this.
I feel better now and tears in my eyes and laughter in my face. :-)
I need to be reminded to calm myself down sometimes too. That old Marine comes out in me and I have to remember that Marine is not needed for any and all situations.
Gave me some chuckles. Have a wonderful day and lots of turkey !!!!!!

I Think when you spend your life doing for others which seems like a trait that comes with fibo that when you stop people can't understand. Its not there fault they just don't understand the change. I find persons with fibo are more sensitive then others. That does not say they are not as good but just feel things different. I all so think we feel pain at a higher level then normal for others. I hope all have a good thanksgiving and I am going to eat a lot of turkey and get some sleep.

God Bless, Anth
