Yes, I have been on Cymbalta for years and I'm sure it does help, but I did recently ask my doctor if he could add something else because it seemed like the Cymbalta wasn't doing as well as it used to. So he added Abilify, and it really seemed to help. But it cost so much that I had to quit taking it. They say that after a while of taking a certain medication that they sometimes lose their effects.
Cymbalta didn't work for me and I was on the highest dosage. It just made me gain 50 pounds. I'm on effexor and 5mg hydrocodone. Effexor is the only thing that's worked.
Hi Sharon, I take Abilify too & you're right, it is extremely expensive. I am lucky that medicaid covers it for me. Quit taking it once a few years ago w/o discussing with provider, thought it was causing some side effects, went into worst depression of my life. Became extremely suicidal, ended up at ER then in mental health unit for a week. Was scary being that bad. In Alaska even though it's now available in generic it's still around $1,000 monthly! For 30 tablets! Crazy.....I now take Vibryd, Lamictal, Abilify. They help to some extent. You are right about medications sometimes losing their effects after some time. Wish you could have continued it if it helped you.... Hope the cost comes down.
Took it several years ago & my memory is basically of nothing. No reaction either way. Guess that doesn't help you much except that everyone has such different reactions to the various meds. Now I take Vibryd, Lamictal, & Abilify for depression & mood stabilization etc. Also some pain meds etc. They advertise a LOT for Cymbalta & Lyrica but the truth is nothing works for everyone. I had awful reactions to Gabapentin but it helps some people immensely. I had hallucinations that put me in the hospital for tests to see if I had a brain tumor. Well, ok, the mental health unit but they did an awful lot of tests. :) Hope it gives you some relief if you try it. It's probably worth trying.
