I know this is annoying to anyone within ear distance...one more reason I don't want to be around people. Yes, I suffer from constant, chronic pain, but not everyone around me wants to be continuously drawn into it nor reminded of it. Any suggestions of alternative reactions of which I can train my brain?

Members connected deeply over the involuntary sounds they make due to chronic pain, with many sharing that groaning, sighing, gasping, and even cursing have become automatic responses they often don't realize they're doing until someone points it out. Several members offered practical coping strategies, including mindful breathing techniques with visualization, using empowering mantras during movement, consciously preparing the body before getting up or changing positions, and reframing the sounds as legitimate expressions of pain rather than something to feel ashamed about. A recurring theme was the tension between wanting to protect loved ones from constant reminders of suffering and the need to honor one's own experience, with many ultimately deciding that if involuntary sounds help them cope with relentless pain, they've earned the right to make them without guilt or apology.

LOL to All who commented!! My husband told me that several nights ago, I kept him awake most of the night by "Grunting "!! Fabulous I said, since I guess it is either that or if I have a night terror, then I could be crying or cussing! Like loud, How embarrassing!!

I do it all the time ! I also talk to myself and mutter. I've thought that it was just a weird side effect of Fibro, and now ,thank you @A MyFibroTeam Member for confirming it. Wow, what next ???!
I sigh a lot !!!! Can't help it... I think I hold my breath sometimes without realizing it ,then have to take a breath. Or shallow breathing, and have to get more air. That , I am aware of.
Oooooh, ahhhhh, ouch , random cussing, grunt etc. lol

Not what you asked, I know, but it's actually listed as one of the symptoms of FM. I figure if they can't do anything for the pain, I'm not going to worry overmuch about a random grunt, gasp, or heaving sigh.

@A MyFibroTeam Member Now I don't feel so bad. I've developed cursing as well and had yet ,til you said, seen anyone else say they started to curse as a result of putting up with Fibro. I try to suppress it around certain people, but it still comes out under my breath. Thanks for posting that. I don't feel so alone in my cursing and cussing. I Wonder if it is a Fibro thing or a result of the frustrations or both.

I know I have sighed because my husband will say are you okay? I spend most days alone while he is at work. So who knows what I do when I am alone lol. It is hard not to sigh or complain with FM. I prefer to think of it as a "tennis player." Like @A MyFibroTeam Member said.
