Members opened up about the exhausting struggle of severe fatigue and sleep disturbances that make it nearly impossible to get out of bed despite taking multiple medications, with many sharing that sleeping 18 to 24 hours straight or missing important events is unfortunately common with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Several members discussed their medication combinations, including Ambien, muscle relaxers like Zanaflex, antidepressants such as Imipramine or Amitriptyline, and anxiety medications, with practical suggestions to try combining lower doses of sleep aids with muscle relaxers, stretching before getting up, and recognizing that thyroid tests may not be fully accurate for people with fibromyalgia. A recurring theme was the frustrating cycle of fighting so hard to fall asleep only to wake up exhausted and hungover, the unpredictability of what works from day to day, and the importance of being gentle with yourself, avoiding morning commitments, and working closely with doctors to find the right balance even when it feels like an endless trial-and-error process.

A lot of times Chronic Fatigue is associated with Fibromyalgia. It is not out of the ordinary for me to sleep 18 hrs. And I can't push myself to get out of bed if my life depended on it. But that comes in spurts. It is not all the time.

I have had the same problem. Can't fall asleep even with sleep aid sometimes and then when I finally fall asleep I can sleep all day. Like it is easier to fall asleep during the day. It takes no effort at all. I also have times when I fall asleep and wake up off and on all night long.
