Members shared how certain foods and additives affect their fibromyalgia symptoms, with artificial sweeteners like aspartame and sucralose, MSG, alcohol, milk, and sugar being frequently mentioned triggers that worsened pain, muscle spasms, or overall symptoms. Several members described trying elimination diets to identify personal triggers, with some finding relief by removing specific foods while others saw no changes from popular approaches like going gluten-free, though one member with celiac disease noted that gluten clearly worsened their fibro flare-ups. A recurring theme was frustration with promised cures and the recognition that fibromyalgia often brings increasing sensitivities and additional diagnoses over time, with members encouraging each other to try simple dietary changes while remaining realistic about what works differently for each person.

Most diet foods that contain Aspartame are bad, I prefer to only eat normal food, nothing diet as they add all sorts of preservatives and additives which just aggravates our condition.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I think you are incredibly insightful. It makes sense that over time things will continue to digress with Fibro. I have only been officially diagnosed for two years now, but suffering for much longer and I know I have gotten worse with less energy. I just don't get why doctors are so resistant to accepting Fibro as being real

@A MyFibroTeam Member. I am with you. I got so frustrated when people promise a "cure". I tried everything promised when I first got fibro. I've even done the Guiafensen "cure", twice!! I finally quit chasing "cures". After all these years I've noticed through numerous blogs that people with fibro tend to have a lot of allergies and intolerances to food, medications, pollen, etc...I swear sometimes I think the very air is out to get us. I think it's part of the body's systems breakdown that docs deny happens with fibro. It may not be "progressive" in that it's a disease you can track like cancer but I completely believe it's progressive in that the longer you have fibro the more problems you will see with other body systems. Most of us end up with multiple diagnosis over time. Like my Diabetes and now the Gastroparesis. I think it's totally worth trying the simple things like diet changes because you never know. It works wonders for some and may not help for others yet it's such a simple thing to try.

@A MyFibroTeam Member when I did the elimination diet it was also gluten free and I only found a few things that exacerbated my symptoms. I had a person who I innocently quoted my doc who specializes in fibro that more than likely if someone was cured they were misdiagnosed and I was chewed up oneside and down the other. Yikes!

@A MyFibroTeam Member I am glad to hear you say that gluten-free didn't affect your Fibro, only because I was on another site where a woman was preaching to everyone that going gluten-free CURED her of her Fibro! It was sad seeing so many people getting so hopeful about it. What she obviously had was gluten-intolerance which went away when she removed the gluten. Dietary changes can help, but we have to be so cautious about waving the "cured" flag.
