Are you tired of constantly having to explain or justify your fibromyalgia to others? That frustration is completely valid β and incredibly common among people living with fibro.
One of the hardest parts is that fibromyalgia is often invisible to others. When you look "fine" on the outside, people question whether you're really suffering. As one MyFibroTeam member put it, if others can see the pain, it's because there's no strength left to hide it β but the pain is always there, whether visible or not. A few things that can help when you're fed up with explaining yourself:
- Set firm boundaries β "No" is a complete sentence. You don't owe anyone a detailed explanation.
- Keep it simple β "I'm not able to do that right now" is enough.
- Prepare for pushback β Some people will test your limits, especially at first. Having a calm, ready response can help.
- Lean on people who get it β Connecting with others who truly understand fibro can ease the loneliness that comes with feeling constantly misunderstood.
You deserve to protect your energy β explaining yourself repeatedly is exhausting, and that exhaustion is real.
