I’m capable of doing light work. Bending is out. I use a grabber tool when I drop things. Do I sound like a quitter? I think I am learning to adapt and overcome.

Members rallied around the question of whether adapting to life with fibromyalgia means giving up, with the overwhelming response being that accepting a new normal is a sign of strength, not defeat. Several members shared practical aids that have helped them, including grabber tools, dressing sticks, adjustable stools, bath lifts, air fryers, electric jar openers, wheat bags, and walking sticks. A recurring theme was the importance of self-compassion, leaning on humor, and celebrating small wins rather than focusing on limitations.

We learn all kinds of ways to cope. It's amazing how smart we can be! You just do the best you can and be proud of what you can do and try not to think about the things you can't do. What other choice do we have. Some days you even surprise yourself when you come up with a new coping skill you just invented.

@A MyFibroTeam Member. We all feel the same way Fiona, but that shouldn't stop us from trying, even if it's little things. Like I said before--" If you can't make waves--make ripples". It'll make you feel good about yourself. Never give up trying. Hang in there!

You are not a quitter you are doing what your body is telling you. If it is not letting you bend anymore then you have to respect your body. It's your mind that overthinks things and makes you think that your quitting. You have to adapt and learn. You are still a strong, independent woman, so don't forget that.

@A MyFibroTeam Member yes it depends what you need,if you struggle bending I also use a dressing stick /shoe horn with a rubber end hook,it's useful for so many things aside from dressing, including opening drawers especially low freezer ones, switching off sockets, hooking items reaching up .I have stools kitchen(recommend adjustable )/bathroom to prevent bending.bath lift as upper body issues.kitchen I only use above waist height air fryer, hob and hot water dispenser and many small aids like electric tin openers, jar openers. The list goes on but I'd defo get a stick its a life changer along with a collection of wheat bags 💜
