Yesterday my lower ribcage on the right started hurting for no apparent reason. I hadn't picked anything up, hadn't done anything physical. I was literally sitting in a car talking with a friend. I used a heating pad last night and was finally able to sleep. Today it's worse, and it seems to be spreading to the back also. It's very difficult sitting down or standing up, and bending over is awful. Anyone experience stuff like this with fibro? Trying to figure out if this is just another lovely… read more

Members connected over the topic of extreme rib pain and fibromyalgia, with many recognizing the symptoms as Costochondritis, a painful inflammation of the cartilage connecting the ribs. Several members shared that both ice and heat can bring relief, and one member mentioned that dry needling and physiotherapy stretches helped reduce flare-ups over time. A recurring theme was the importance of seeing a doctor to rule out other causes like fatty liver or bronchitis, especially since the pain can mimic a heart attack.

I had a doctor say that if your ribs hurt its because your muscles are tight. I put heat on mine and it helps. But he suggested when I go to the physiotherapist, to get her to needle my back to release the muscles. And it helps. My physiotherapist suggested some stretches to do every day to help as well. Once in a while I still get pain, but it hasn't been as bad.

I had rib pain for over a year and had lots of tests, X-rays etc and it turned out to be a symptom of Fibro. It was one of the many symptoms that finally gave me my diagnosis. It’s so painful and gets me down but as others have said, ice or heat helps but I feel your pain (literally) and hope it eases soon.
