Members shared varied experiences switching between or combining Gabapentin and Savella for fibromyalgia pain, with several finding that taking both medications together provided better relief than either alone. Many described Savella as requiring patience due to a slow titration process and weeks to build up in the system, with mixed results ranging from significant improvement to intolerable sedation or side effects like elevated blood sugar in diabetics. A recurring theme was the highly individual nature of fibromyalgia treatment, with members encouraging the original poster to discuss options with their doctor, stay patient through the adjustment period, and remember that what works for one person may not work for another.

Savella worked better for me than Gabapentin did.

Yes it was. My blood sugars were in the 300's. I called my doctor and asked her and she said yes it does raise blood sugars. She forgot I was a diabetic.

I'm taking Savella with Lyrica. Savella worked great years ago. Now Lyrica (3 doses/day) is better, but I get a boost from taking Savella with it once a day.

Barbi, I'm also on both Savella and Gabapentin. I unfortunately am on low doses of each because of side effects, but I definitely notice a difference if I stop taking them.

Hi Donna, was that something you experienced with Savella? I know it can impact blood pressure and heart rate, but never heard of it impacting blood sugar.
