I went to a neuropathic doctor back in the 1990s. He put me on probiotics, told me to go vegan, drop milk, meat, etc. He helped more with the massage, acupuncture and chiropractor stuff than anything else. Insurance did not cover anything he did, so it couldn't last. GF wasn't a thing back then, but another doctor suggested dropping it around 2000. Dropping gluten made a huge improvement in my overall health, not just IBS. Now I'm GF free, sugar free, processed foods free, eating chicken and fish, veggies and fruit. Still not losing weight, but I feel pretty good. No IBS to speak of. Yes, I have to cook every few nights, but hubby loves leftovers and I freeze up meals for days I feel horrible. Big pot meals and advance planning makes cooking easier.

I have done several elimination diets and the last one was too restrictive and I lost weight that I didn't really have as I was too thin already. It was a raw, plant based vegan diet that has been promoted on several platforms. I did it for 6 weeks and felt absolutely horrible at the end of it. Saw my doctor and my labs revealed I was malnourished. So I just went back to eating fish, eggs, vegetables, unprocessed grains, minimal fruit, etc. I cut out sugar, gluten, dairy and processed food awhile ago. I am a firm believer that diet plays a crucial role on our well being. If the gut isn't healthy we become unhealthy and sick. It's a balance to find the fit that is right for each person.

Are you talking about a naturopath? In the late 90s I tested positive for 42 food sensitivities and avoided them for several years. I now have 2, clams and almonds. I'm also gluten and lactose intolerant. I can have a small amount of lactose if I take lactase tablets with it.

I was just wondering the same thing cause I have abdominal pain and food sensitivities. I just recently started eating smaller more frequent meals with proteins and carbs to try to help with energy. Not having big meals is helpful because that would make me feel uncomfortably full.

I'm just about to start on a low FODMAP diet to see if that helps me.
