Members reflected on their sleep patterns, with many noting that fibromyalgia significantly altered their natural rhythms, turning former night owls into early risers or vice versa, while others found their sleep cycles became unpredictable and fragmented regardless of preference. Several members shared practical strategies that helped them manage sleep issues, including CPAP machines that dramatically improved energy and reduced pain, prescription sleep medications like Ambien, strict bedtime routines to protect sleep quality, and adjusting schedules around partners or pets with special needs. A recurring theme was the profound loss of restorative sleep that came with fibromyalgia, with members describing cycles of waking every hour or two, feeling like strangers in their own bodies, and grieving the activities and routines they once enjoyed before the condition took hold.

I've always been a night owl. I could never figure out how people could wake up bright eyed. I struggled all through my adult life. I knew the deepest sleep I got was between 5 am & 9am. My boss would say just go to bed earlier. By my 50s I was waking every hour & a half. Then I'd be awake for a couple of hours solving all the world's problems, sleep again and repeat. It wasn't until my doc gave me Ambien that I actually slept Wishing I'd had it during my working years. Then came laws you couldn't have both sleeping pills & pain meds. I chose pain. So back no sleeping. About 3 years ago told my new doc I didn't sleep so he sent me to a sleep test. He said I didn't get deep enough to even record. Have sleeping pills again, relaxed the law some. But mornings are when my fibro hurts the worst. So I take at 2 to 10. I still wake but can go back to sleep easier. Still sleep deepest from 5 to 10. It is the coolest part of the day.

I was put on sleeping pills at age 8. My parents wanted to get some rest.
