Leg Question
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone else experience intermittent leg pain, burning and weakness (not due to lack of magnesium or thyroid)? Drs. Think mine might be related to my connective tissue issues (Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder, or Lupus) but not sure. Hoping to hear from others and if any of you have it figured out.

I have had issues with my knees and now my legs. Yesterday, I went to get up and both legs started to tremor. It was awful I wasn’t even able to walk. No doctor has figured out what I had. I did the TENS 7000 electrical stimulation and it helped. My massage therapist is also extremely helpful, he told me to buy the TENS 7000 it’s $31.99 on Amazon. You need a good massage but like 8-12 sessions, he specializes in autoimmune disorders. He is also into homeopathic diet and lifestyle and muscle relaxers. I hope this helps !!!

@A MyFibroTeam Member I also get bad piriformis pain (so bad my legs have given out from it before). I used to get my piriformis released using myofascial release at a chiropractor, but it was super painful and the relief didn't last long. Topical magnesium has been a lifesaver for me (I use the Theraworx foam, you can get it at Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS, Amazon etc). For some reason the foam works better than the spray for me, though the spray is helpful too. It painlessly relieves the tension and works like a dream (it's very helpful for all painful/tense muscles as well, and will even get rid of cramps almost instantly). I can't recommend it enough, it's made a bigger difference in my fibro pain than any medication and I've never experienced any side effects from it (aside from stinging a bit if it gets on an open cut).

@A MyFibroTeam Member that's interesting, my left leg tends to hurt more than my right as well. I also get horrible aches, there is a kind of pain I sometimes get in my legs (my calves specifically) that I call bone pain that is an excruciating ache that goes all the way down to the bone and almost feel like it's emmanating from the bone (no idea if this is actually the case or not). It feels like someone is scraping out the bone marrow with a hot spoon (when I was having that pain in my sleep I actually had a nightmare once that I was being tortured that way).

My hypothesis is that the muscle gets so tense that it constricts the bone (making a viscious cycle of pain), since people with fibromyalgia have been measured to have 3x the tension in their muscles compared to "regular" people. Topical magnesium helps a lot, along with heat it's the only thing that helps when the pain gets that severe (heat helps the most and I think magnesium helps break the cycle of tension). I always have pain in both legs but the bone pain typically stays mostly in the left leg.

Today, I went for an evaluation with a physical therapist, he was brilliant! He told me my Fibromyalgia and severe pain are impairing my mobility. Also, he stated that Fibromyalgia , effects both the Parasympathetic and Sympathetic nervous system. Please read about it.
Also, I will show you a poster that explains, exactly why were impaired in any of our bodies systems. Please look through this picture!

@A MyFibroTeam Member you might be onto something, I just read a study that found "The patients with FM showed significantly increased arterial stiffness, suggesting a pathophysiologic link between FM and endothelial dysfunction." It would be interesting if that was the reason for the intensity of the leg pain so many of us share, and it would make sense since physical therapy has helped me tremendously with my leg pain. I notice when I'm less active the pain gets worse (also when I overdo it as well, but almost even more so when I lay around too much).
