Members connected over the shared struggle of severe constipation, with many describing how pain medications like codeine and morphine, as well as fibromyalgia itself, can worsen the problem. Several members recommended magnesium as a daily or every-other-day supplement taken before bed, sharing that it has helped them maintain regular bowel movements after years of suffering, while others mentioned fiber supplements like Benefiber, Smooth Move tea, olive oil, Movicol sachets, and Dulcolax as helpful solutions. A recurring theme was the frustration of managing constipation alongside chronic pain and exhaustion, the importance of consulting with a doctor before starting new supplements, and the relief that comes from finally finding something that works after trying so many options.

I use magnesium oxide about 400 mg every other day, about one hour before bedtime. Good luck finding your right balance, remember that you could be different.

Iโ€™ve had IBS-C most of my life but when I got fibromyalgia it got twice as bad. I started taking magnesium because I read it help people with fibro. Iโ€™m not sure if it helped with my fibro, but since I started taking it daily, I am not constipated anymore. I canโ€™t believe I suffered as long as I did with constipation and not one doctor told me magnesium could possible help it.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, there is also a tea called Smooth Move that worked for me. Target and Meijers both carry it, but Amazon has a bigger variety to choose from
