A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Anyone get what feels like stomach or intestinal spasms? I also have a hiatal hernia.

Yes, all the time! I don’t have a hernia but I do have IBS which can get really bad at times. Sometimes the only relief I get is from a heating pad

I just use Nexium and tums. Sometimes I forget nexium but never tums. Acid reflux hurts big time and it’s caused Barrett’s Esophagus which can turn to cancer.

No breathing problem (though I see how it could easy enough because of all the nerves right in a bundle there. Because the vegus nerve (what causes the esophageal spasms) runs right next to the nerve that controls the heart rhythm, I have skipped beats in my heart during a gerd episode. Wore a halter heart monitor for a month to figure that one out but nothing you can do about it. Just sympathetic nerve impulse causing it.

What are you using to control the Gerd--if anything? Mine's far better using the Rabeprasol sodium (which my dr had to fight like hell to get my insurance to cover, because it's the only thing that works for me)
