I am having extreme pain in front and back rib cage on the right side only. TENS, heat, cold, stretches, aspirin, soaking in a hot bath .....nothing helps. X-rays show no broken ribs or congestion. The pain has gone on for four days and keeps me up at night. Has anyone else had pain only in one side of their ribcage? If so what helped? My doctor said I could try Voltern gel but it would take two weeks to begin working. I take magnesium twice a day. Thank you for any help!

Members rallied around someone experiencing severe one-sided rib pain that turned out to be shingles, but before the diagnosis, many shared their own experiences with similar fibromyalgia-related rib pain, including costochondritis, fascia tightness, and nerve discomfort that can last for months or even years. Several members offered practical strategies that have provided at least some relief, including heating pads, CBD oil, lidocaine ointments, amitriptyline, pillows for support, and short breaks with hot water bottles, though many acknowledged that finding consistent relief remains an ongoing challenge. A recurring theme was the difficulty of managing chronic rib pain that disrupts daily activities like driving or wearing a bra, met with warm encouragement, empathy, and a shared determination to keep searching for answers and relief.

You poor thing! I have rib pain almost all the time, as well.. pain is sometimes only on the right side. My heating pad helps a lot.. and resting..so does my cbd oil. When the pain is severe, 25mg of amitriptyline does the job for me. I hope you can find something that works for you

I have constant rib pain in the front and back on both sides. I use my lidocaine ointment but it doesn't help too much, neither do my meds. rest maybe helps a bit, but sometimes it hurts it more. Hard to answer this one. I hope it subsides for you some. I know my rib pain is from the tightness and knots in my fascia in-between my ribs and wraps all around me. Wearing a bra hurts like crazy, but I have to while I am out of the house. Maybe once I get a reduction I can go braless LOL, I hope you feel better, I know it is no fun.

I just found out today that I have shingles...after a week, the rash began breaking out so my doctor could diagnose it. Thankful fibro had not begun causing this much burning pain.....they say two more weeks to clear up...Thank you everyone for your comments, concern and support!

I do have rib pain and it is like a heavy weight pushing my spine downward radiating then to one side the longer I stand. The only relief I have had from that is sitting with the hot water bottle to the back for 10 to 15 minutes. But keep in mind I have other spine issues as well. Best wishes
