Members connected over the conversation about losing interest in food, with many describing overlapping digestive issues like acid reflux, esophageal spasms, gastroparesis, and GERD that make eating uncomfortable or painful. Several members shared strategies that help them manage, including taking prescription or over-the-counter medications for reflux, eating mostly carbs like mashed potatoes and crackers when nothing else feels manageable, and noting that certain medications (like opioids) suppress appetite while others (like medical marijuana) increase it significantly. A recurring theme was acceptance and self-compassion, with members acknowledging that appetite comes and goes in waves, and sometimes the best approach is simply to eat what your body tolerates without guilt or pressure.

I go through phases with my appetite. Sometimes I’m not hungry and can barely eat and other times I’ve got a good appetite. I don’t think it’s necessarily related to my FM..

I have trouble with granny food and seeds. I don't know why that is but my internist diagnosed it as acid reflux.

Oh yes. I have acid reflux and I think it's all the chemicals, tiny bits of poison, really, that I take for my conditions and other maladies. When I swallow the food gets stuck in esophagus, it comes back up with lots of very heavy saliva coming back up. It feels awful and of course it happens with my favorite foods. Also, if you take an opioid your appetite is suppressed. There's no such thing as a fat junkie. Check with your doctor. Mine prescribed and OTC which works well.
