Are Flares Always Pain?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello,

I get what I believe are flares but they aren’t really increased pain. I get increased discomfort along with an increase in itching, crawling skin, anxiety, nausea, dizziness and fatigue but can’t sleep. I think increased agitation sums it up.

Is this a flare? I always assume a flare is more pain but I’m not sure?

A fibromyalgia flare-up is a temporary increase in the intensity or number of symptoms associated with fibromyalgia. Usually, increased pain and worsening fatigue are the hallmarks of a fibromyalgia flare-up. Additional symptoms may also occur during flare-ups these flare-ups, including poor sleep, trouble thinking (cognitive dysfunction), digestive difficulty (such as acid reflux), swollen extremities, and numbness and tingling. These fibromyalgia attacks can last from a couple of days to several weeks, or even months.

In order to help prevent fibromyalgia flare-ups, it is important to try to identify triggers and then try to reduce exposure to these triggers. Unfortunately, fibromyalgia flare-ups are often not associated with triggering events or circumstances and thus prevention of these flare-ups can be challenging.

Myvflares aren’t just pain. I sometime get a heaviness all over and can barely move my arms or k gs or I will get hit with a wave of depression. General discomfit, horrible itching, etc. that’s strong I consider a flare. Pain too of course.

My flares are not always pain. Dizziness, brain fog, palpitations, GI distress, headaches, tingling, numbness, etc. The pain would be less distressing, honestly. We think pain with fibro. But it's clearly more than pain.

I’ve got a constant humming noise in my head. Close my eyes and I feel sick, noise hurts, light hurts, smell hurts. My neck and head are sore and feel too heavy for my body. Feel like I’m about to die, it’s awful.

The sensory is the worst with me as well. Noise and light are the biggest sensory issues. Some days every little sound and noise is magnified and even someone speaking is almost painful torture.
And bright light ,especially florescent is the worst.
Yet dim lighting is not good either as I can't see well in dim lighting. Can't win there.
