So since November I’ve been having weird zapping feelings in the back of my head and mostly my lower face around my lower lip. It had been happening just in the right side but has recently in the last couple of days started in the left side of my lower lip too. It doesn’t last but seconds and mostly happens when I smile on my lower lip. I’ve had MRI’s of my brain, CT of my head, and MRI of my face and neck. None of those showed anything abnormal. No MS or anything like that. I do have an… read more

Members connected over unusual tingling, zapping, and crawling sensations in the face and head that often defy clear medical explanation, with many sharing similar experiences of brief electric-like feelings around the lips, scalp, and back of the head despite normal MRI and CT results. Several members suggested possible causes including occipital neuralgia (with nerve blocks offering temporary relief), fibromyalgia-related nerve symptoms, medication changes (particularly decreasing prednisone or missing doses of drugs like Cymbalta), and autoimmune conditions that fall short of a formal diagnosis like lupus or MS. A recurring theme was the frustration of unexplained neurological symptoms that feel isolating and are sometimes dismissed by doctors or met with skepticism by others, yet finding relief in community members who truly understand and validate these experiences.

Welcome to the world of Occipital Neuralgia. I had nerve blocks in the back of my skull on both sides and it helped.

This happens to me so often! Exactly like you described it. Might be above my lip, in front of my ear, on my chin. I too am in sort of autoimmune limbo. Its not quite lupus..but doesnt meet a defined connective tissue disorder yet. I had MRI's done as well, suspecting MS. They were clear. I'll get them often for a few days, then it goes away for awhile.

I get tingling and weird awful headaches that I am convinced are some sort of neuralgia because they do not respond to migraine meds.

I get a feeling like something crawling around under my scalp. Is that what you are having?
