I've been told that consuming food/drinks with sugar is like adding lighter fluid to the fire. I have just recently decided that the first thing I am going to try was to change up the diet, eliminating sugar when I can. Making better food choices, and see if it does indeed improve my symptoms. I'm also wondering about salt intake? Anyone want to offer their thoughts on either of these? Thank you.

Members shared diverse experiences with sugar and salt in managing fibromyalgia symptoms, with most finding that reducing processed foods, refined sugars, and artificial sweeteners helped ease inflammation, swelling, and digestive issues. Several members offered practical strategies including switching to natural sweeteners like stevia, honey, or monk fruit, choosing minimally processed foods, experimenting with elimination diets, and one member crediting a strict keto approach with significant pain reduction and 18 pounds of weight loss. A recurring theme was the importance of individual experimentation to identify personal triggers, keeping food diaries to track reactions, and finding a sustainable balance that works for each person's unique body and lifestyle.

Definitely salt intake decrease will help with the swelling with fibro. Sugar and artificial sugars are a definite trigger. Processed foods too. Google diet for fibromyalgia as so many foods are triggers

Unfortunately I am still on OTC Omeprazole. I almost died back in 1991 from an ecoli infection and was hospitalized 5 times in 3 months with NG tubes which permanently damaged my esophagus valve. Now I need to keep acid level down. Another reason I cut out sugar. Sugar gives you heartburn.

I have removed all refined sugar, grains and 80% carbs in keto diet. No processed food except bacon, some sausage, but only those with low nitrates. I haven't worried about the salt I cook with. I don't eat out at all anymore so that's cut salt by huge amounts already. Pain, inflammation, arthritis, energy, weight loss have all improved. I've lost 18 lbs, and lost 2 inches off my hips and belly. I have lost most of fat off my ribs first. Changing my diet seems to be key in fighting fibro. When I went gluten free the first time, all if my muscle pain went away. I am hoping for the same result this time!!

Processed foods are high in added salt however salt does help with cramps. Maybe eliminate as many processed foods as you can and just add salt as needed.

Has anyone tried Monk fruit? I hear it is sweeter than sugar, but all natural with no bitterness like Stevia.
