Has Anyone Out There Tried Cymbalta (or The Generic Duloxetine) For Fibro?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

My doctor recently prescribed me Cymbalta for my fibro. Just wondering if anyone out there has tried it? I’ve read some horror stories about the withdrawals when stopping the medication so trying to get all the facts before i start it. Any advice would be appreciated!

I was on Cymbalta for 5-6 of years. The thing is, when it comes to medications, everyone has a different reaction to them. I am very sensitive to meds, so I had a very hard time starting this med, but I was determined to get better. After years had passed it did not seem to be as effective and I very slowly weaned myself off - literally counting down the little pellets inside each capsule. That being said, it is possible that it will work great for you. It may be trial and error to find what works best. Wishing you all the best.

The doctor will ween you off if you wish but likely perscribe another. I chose to go natural. I weened off Cymbalta because of the side effects were unbearable. Reduced dose reducing each week: one day apart, then every second day apart, every 3rd day apart, every 4th day apart, etc. My sister in law has fibro several years longer than me. She was weened off by her doctor recently also. Her doctor had her ween off in one week taking cymbalta every other day. She has had a HORRIBLE time with side effects. Just saying. Good that Cymbalta works for you. Not the case for many. I'm one of those where it did not help. My view is that if it doesn't improve your life, remove it. I also believe functional medicine is the best route...natural and practical solutions. Pharmaceutical companies need to keep you addicted to stay in business. Don't think it was their intent at the outset but the financial rewards has become their motivation.

I took Cymbalta for a few months and I had serious sleeplessness. It was terrible. I had to wean myself off of it which took a while. Now I am on gabapentin that works with high potency vitamins call isotontix tnat really works well. .

If you have IBS it can make it worse. That is what happened to me and I have IBS-D. In regards to withdrawals, I see these comments a lot with antidepressants and I have had symptoms from stopping but most of the time if I stop slowly (follow directions from your doctor on stopping) rather than just stop suddenly it will be much easier. Either reducing the dose or going to every other day dosing is what has been recommended to me from my doctor when I have had to wean off medications.

First never wean yourself! And the doctor will tell you how to wean from it and put you on something else. Cymbalta has been great for me.
