Throat Problems?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

For a month I've been feeling like there is something stuck on my troath and that causes me to cough all the time. I also have pain and some difficult swallowing. Could this be linked with fibromyalgia?

Hi Carla,
I had symptoms of severe throat pain, swollen lymph nodes and a sensation of something in my throat after I first became ill with CFS/Fibro in 1999. I went to an ENT and they did a scope because the pain was radiating to my ear. Scope was negative but my labs showed I had active Epstein Barr Virus.

I just wanted to add that after after everything (except Epstein Barr Virus) came back negative, scope included, my throat symptoms eventually dissipated. I looked back into my records and saw that I was diagnosed with globus hystericus. That's the outdated terminology?? I guess it's now called globus sensation/pharyngeus; i.e. Feeling of something stuck in your throat...

Anxiety, GERD, etc, can also cause dysphagia (diff swallowing). I'm just relaying what I went through with this and that it did go away. I'm not a doc so please get examined to be certain it's nothing serious.

I've had this! Iive felt a sore hoarse throat for days but no sickness. I've had that feeling of something being stuck in my throats and needing to cough it up, feeling like my throat was closing in on me, and difficulty swallowing/speaking at times

Hi Carla, I just posted about the exact same thing. It relieves my anxiety about knowing other people have this same symptom. I’m sorry you are going through this, I really understand how frustrating this is.

Ok all..in my research for me..have had same thing..I believe partly acid reflux..apparently water the best diluter...plus the throat becomrs very sensitive and causes coughong spasms at tiniest thing eg lettuce leaf..dry toast..crumbly biscuits..I now take liquid with my food eg dunk biscuits in coffee..have toast with a cuppa..avoid lettuce spinach leaves..Find what makes you cough and either take fluid with it or avoid
I have learnt digereedoo breathing so that if I feel my throat spasm can still breathe through my nosewhile I sort my throat out..sounds weird but works for me. I had always put this down to my asthma but I differentiate what is asthma ..acidreflux and fibro..
