Members responded to someone who experienced sudden temporary paralysis and loss of leg function after battling the flu, with hospital tests revealing nothing definitive. Several members shared their own experiences with similar frightening symptoms including numbness, tingling, sudden weakness, and sleep paralysis, with some mentioning diagnoses like fibromyalgia, MS, or unexplained recurring episodes that doctors could not identify through testing. A recurring theme was the fear and frustration of experiencing terrifying physical symptoms without clear medical answers, balanced by community support and the acknowledgment that complex pain syndromes can manifest in unpredictable ways.

My understanding, although hard for me to accept -most of the time -, is that Fibro comes with a myriad of symptoms. I always thought textbook fibro meant muscle pain and when I didn't have it, it's not that I didn't have compassion but I never understood why it was such a big deal. Then I got it and found out it's more than just muscle pain. It's nerve pain, nerve sensitivity, periods of profound sudden weakness, reduction in fine motor skills, weird sensations (like a vibrating from the inside out), pain, stiffness, depression, anxiety, numbness, burning skin, chaffed feeling skin, etc. I have been tested for everything. I still go to the doctors trying to figure out what's "really" wrong with me. I am most certain they think I'm a certified lunatic by now since this has been going on for 9 months but I can't help it, it scares me and I want to make sure it REALLY is "just fibro." My newest symptom is a burning mouth and the burning mouth typically starts at night...which makes sense because something naturally happens to your adrenal and cortisol levels (which help fight pain) later in the evenings. It's why a lot of people even feel more pain when they are laying down at night. But like I said, can't say I've lost total feeling in my legs but I have had a TON of other scary and weird things happen that no one has any answer for other than, "fibro" or as Mayo Clinic calls it, Centralized Sensitivity Syndrome. There are obviously A LOT of people out there experiencing similar pain syndromes because there has been a lot of research put into funding pain research in an effort to get people off opiods. What they've discovered is our brains are actually causing more pain signals due to a hypersensitivity.

I heard in the news yesterday morning about a polio-like flue strain. IT starts out like the flu but then causes paralysis. They also said that it can take weeks but everyone so far has recovered..

Do you drink diet drinks or diet jello or anything with nutrasweet in it? I drank diet Pepsi for a short period of time, my upper lip felt like it had fur on it and under my nose. I also had migraines. On break we were watching the news. They described everything I was going through and said I was allergic to nutrasweet. I found out it is also the symptoms of MS also. I have that also. I have to ask at family dinners if anything is diet, and has that in it.

I have had the tingling and numbing sensation in my legs, arms and hands, but never to the paralyzingly stage. It causes aching and makes me ‘very’ uncomfortable..

Been having bouts of paralysis going on 6 years now.
It happens out of the blue while out walking I'll louse the ability to walk n if unlucky hit the ground where i was walking (which has been bad).
Normally i wake up each morning and have to wait until i can feel below my waste again it can take 20 min to a good hour before i regain movement.
There are no answers to why i just deal with it as it happens.
