Members shared the common and painful experience of family members dismissing or forgetting about their fibromyalgia, with many describing frustration over being told their symptoms are all in their head or simply due to aging. Several members suggested practical strategies, including printing informational articles for family to read, bringing a spouse or relative to a doctor's appointment so a physician can explain the condition directly, and in some cases, choosing to stop discussing fibromyalgia with unsupportive family altogether while leaning instead on understanding communities like this one. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of lacking empathy from those closest to them, the deep desire to be believed and supported without being accused of seeking sympathy, and the resilience members find through faith, self-advocacy, and mutual understanding within the fibromyalgia community.

there are some articles that explain what the symptoms would be like for a person who doesnt have fibro. maybe have them read those and they might understand better!

It might be a blessing that my family is small and live miles apart. I take care of my mother and she understands even when I have to drive an issue home, because she is elderly and frail and self involved right now. My sister comes to help out every so often and she seems to forget my medical status each time. Next time I'll give her a slip of paper with "fibromyalgia " written on it and say, "Google it." After 24 years denial is silly and disrespectful.

I agree. You need to give them something to read so they can understand what you're going through and help.

A lot of people will never understand
What people with Fibro go through
On a daily basis. It can be Very Hard
Coping with each day.
I pray each day for Gods help
And that is the only way I make
It each day.🙏
