Members overwhelmingly confirmed that arm, hand, and finger pain is a common fibromyalgia symptom, with many describing sensations ranging from feeling like dragging hands across brick walls to numbness, tingling, burning, and pins-and-needles feelings that often worsen upon waking or during rest. Several members shared practical strategies including wearing wrist supports for arthritis or carpal tunnel, using anti-inflammatory lotions, taking medications like tramadol or fentanyl patches, and getting proper testing to rule out conditions like arthritis, CRPS, or nerve issues that can mimic or coexist with fibro. A recurring theme was the importance of finding an understanding doctor who recognizes that fibro pain is real and widespread, retraining the brain through distraction and activity, and connecting with others who validate these frustrating and ever-changing symptoms.

Yes, this is a pretty common symptom with me. It's worse when I wake up. My left arm and hand are often numb. My hands (in cooler months hurt badly), and I also get the pins and needles feeling. I am wondering if my neck is out of alignment or if this all just symptoms of fibro. God bless you.

Yes I do and pretty nasty it is as with the hands it feels like I have dragged my hands down a brick wall! My arms hurt as well and shoulders can be stiff and painfull. I’m afraid you can get pain most places and it differs for each person x

I do take tramadol in high doses every night & some days ,I've also been using Fentanyl patches for years
Patches are good as they bypass the gut & cannot be lost to vomiting !

You need an understanding GP ..the day I was prescribed Fentanyl my smile had slipped right off my face ...he said no one should have to suffer pain too bad to live with ...something we all experience but knowing that you are understood really does help .

A lovely rheumatologist prescribed a muscle relaxant to take at night which does help but I must rattle with pills when I turn over in bed :-)

After years of practising I can say "I'm fine thanks" well enough to convince folk who don't know me . Pain is no joke though & the varying symptoms of Fibro are so different from one day to the next & we are all different

My few thoughts here. Most people on here have some form of what’s termed Centralized Sensitization Syndrome. Fibro/CFS, etc fall under this . My understanding from attending Mayo is that the portion of the brain responsible for processing pain is overactive. It’s as if your brain is in constant fight or flight mode. Researchers aren’t exactly sure how ithappens but believe it comes from trauma whether physical/emotional/psychological. If your brain constantly perceives every little thing you feel as a threat, it rewires itself and actually starts creating more memory pain neurosynapses. This is why people have phantom limb syndrome - no arm there but it still hurts like hell. That’s how powerful the brain is! This is not made up and Mayo will tell you, no you’re not crazy and yes, your pain is real. There is an old fibro year (18 point) and the new which is a lengthy questionnaire asking if you’ve had pain in multiple areas in the last 3 months. Fibro is tricky. I think it’s different for everyone and some might have more CSS than fibro or maybe there’s just so much more to learn about it. I have major sensations that make me completely uncomfortable. They feel like electricity running to my hands and feet. I’ve been tested for everything. I mean, everyhthinf. So either I have something so elusive no doctor at Mayo could find it or I have exactly what they said I have. I have CSS and Fibro. I sometimes don’t believe I have fibro bc my muscles don’t hurt that much but I do have areas that constantly hurt like my hands. And yes, my left arm hurts the worst...my entire left side seems to give me more issues. I have numbness for no reason, etc. I essentially believe the nerves in my body are incredibly hyperactive. The only time I don’t feel pain is typically when I’m sleeping. And when I feel unusual sensations, it’s like my brain grabs a hold and remembers it and ruminates on it over and over and over. As hard as it may be, try to focus on something else. I’ve had the burning sensations before too. They suck. But go jog on a treadmill. Listen to music. Try everything you can to avoid thinking about how bad it sucks. Go play with some puppies at the Humane Society. I’m serious. Retrain the brain. ❤️ But whatever you do, just know you’re not crazy and supported by many on this page.

Yes. Almost daily but today it takes a back seat to my tingly tongue. 😬
