Hi all. Does anyone have bad acid reflux? I do but typically can control it with Prevacid & watching what I eat. I am in LV right now. And for the last 3 days have felt rotten & not been able to eat much. I’ve been searching out places for chicken noodle soup & drinking TONS of water. But here’s the problem now...just went to a dinner with my husband & 5 of his work partners. I had to leave because all of a sudden I felt like there was a steel rod going straight thru my esophagus down into my… read more

Members rallied around someone experiencing severe acid reflux symptoms while traveling, with the overwhelming consensus being to see a gastroenterologist as soon as possible to rule out serious conditions like ulcers, Barrett's esophagus, or even esophageal cancer. Several members shared their personal successes with prescription medications like omeprazole, pantoprazole, and Nexium, while others suggested practical strategies including taking Zantac alongside existing meds, eating smaller meals, drinking warm herbal tea before meals, and avoiding lying down with a full stomach. A recurring theme was the importance of getting proper diagnostic testing like an endoscopy or biopsy rather than just managing symptoms, with members emphasizing that early detection and treatment can prevent more serious complications down the road.

Definitely get a stomach biopsy. For me, I find eating big heavy meals, I have such a bad and immediate reaction. I find drinking warm herbal tea or water, just before mealtimes to settle the acid. I take serious notice of what ingredients I cannot have. For instance, I can eat corn on the cob but I can't eat cornmeal. I drink ginger or lemonade after mealtimes to help digesting. In worse cases, I take my pills with Gaviscon.

Recently had an endoscopy for worsening problems with food getting stuck in esophagus. He said he felt resistance getting the scope down. Biopsy showed GERD. Put me on prescription Omeprazole (prilosec) and while I don’t lije taking anything it has helped tremendously and I feel better having ruled out Barrett’s Esophagus or anything more serious.

You check your urine and saliva. You can do that with a paper strip that will measure your Ph level. I got mine from a company that I use, but I don't know if can write the name of it here.
Than I take supplements to correct it.

Me too but i have no idea how to fix the GERD/esophagus narrowing without the omeprazole. Has been happening on and off for 30 years and diet, times that I eat, etc have not changed it.
