To those who have tried Valerian Root does it help alot with pain. I wanted to buy the root itself but I want to know if it helps first. Also I need something to help me go to sleep. Once I'm asleep I'm good it's just getting there that's the problem. Any ideas?

Members shared mixed experiences with valerian root for sleep and pain, with some finding it helpful initially but noting that tolerance can build over time, while others cautioned that it may cause drowsiness and potential liver concerns. Several members recommended alternatives including melatonin (especially quick-dissolve or combination formulas with magnesium), tart cherry juice for its natural melatonin and anti-inflammatory properties, magnesium and turmeric supplements for pain relief, and prescription options like trazodone or zolpidem for those with persistent insomnia. A recurring theme was that sleep solutions are highly individual and often require trial and error, with many members also suggesting complementary approaches like acupuncture, establishing consistent bedtime routines, deep breathing exercises, and avoiding caffeine after midday.

I also have an extremely hard time staying asleep. I take trazadone. I’ve been on many different sleep meds and this one works the best for me. I also do not take it every night. I try to use it sparingly. I work part time and usually need it the night prior. Good luck all!!

Valerian helped for awhile and then I needed more and it worked against me. I will make you drowsy so do not drive after taking it. I finally got and Rx for Elavil which relaxed me and I slept well until it too was not working. Lots of sleepless nights until I learned of ambien and now take zolpidem which is a narcotic but sleep is necessary and I take it. Good luck with your ventures with whatever you do.

I typed a long response yesgerday but dont see it so hope its here somewhere.

Briefly..
Make sure its pure Valarian as there are others with additives. Most of those have the least amount of root and additives for sleep or unnecessary ingred.

Secondly it can cause other meds to not work as effective so be safe to check though there arent many

Third its a sedative effect for relaxation and sleep so just like other sedatives it can help with releasing stress and muscle spasms, even relax nerves.
The more you take the more youre likely to get a sleepy effect.

Magnesium, b12 and turmeric supplements all help with pain, energy and nerve health.
Melatonin is best for a better night sleep.

Please let me know if i cam answer your aues in greater detail. Hugs
