I find myself questioning myself and how I feel...Like am I just talking myself into feeling bad...and questioning this whole disease, (ex. Do I really feel THAT bad or am I just 'talking myself into it' or am I just depressed?????

Members deeply connected over the struggle of self-doubt that comes with fibromyalgia, wondering whether their pain is real or imagined, especially when doctors, family, and friends dismiss their invisible illness as being lazy or hypochondriacal. Several members shared strategies that have helped them reclaim confidence in their experience, including maintaining a positive morning routine, taking guilt-free rest when needed, seeking validation from knowledgeable pain specialists, reading research to better understand the condition, and using meditation or distraction techniques to manage both pain and the mental toll of chronic illness. A recurring theme was the profound relief that comes from having just one person acknowledge that the pain is real and not manufactured, with many emphasizing that fibromyalgia deserves the same respect and compassion as any visible disease.

Sometimes I worry the same, if we focus on our pain we often can make it worse than it is. Like a hangnail if you keep thinking about it, it seems way worse.
With fibro, each morning I try to be positive, I get up but both feet on the floor and say "here I come world" sometimes I do a face plant because I am prone to fainting lol but I try and keep a positive attitude so I am not HELPING fibro control my life. We can't make fibro go away but we can try our best to not let it steal our joy. On the days that all I can think is "OMG I hurt" i likely am thinking it because it is that severe. I try and do as much as I can, if I can and then I take a "no guilt" rest and let my body try and heal itself.

I feel the same way. Did I cause this? etc. I read a study that said that thinking about a pain makes it worse. Keep yourself distracted. Thinking is our enemy.

I used to question myself a lot and would often wonder, is this all in my head and am i really in so much pain.
I remember after a couple years of diagnosis going to a pain clinic and seeing a Dr (who is also a professor) who is one of the top guys in my city(maybe even country) who has dealt with clients in pain for years. One of the first things he said something like this to me "dont worry, you are not making this up, it is an actual condition, its not 'just in your head' and you arent going crazy". I burst into tears and sobbed!!!! I had health issues for 7 years, 2 of those were after a fibro diagnosis, finally someone had acknowledged my pain and understood it!!! The sense of relief was huge!!!! After those words (2.5 years ago) i don't doubt myself anymore. I also found reading research around fibro has helped me understand it a lot better.

I think the medical profession tends to make us feel like it's all in our heads. I totally disagree.
