Doesn’t sound like a very good counselor. It’s like when someone says “oh that’s all in your head to a depressed person. Yes it is and that doesn’t make it any less real.
I'm not sure exactly what program you tried, but I stumbled upon John Sarno's ideas through an app called Curable. It guides you through meditation, brain training, and expressive writing exercises. I was bedridden with pain when I started using the app two weeks ago. I feel 90% better now, and I am 100% confident I am going to recover completely. I'd love to talk to you about it as I'm convinced it is the best solution to living with fibromyalgia. I've been reading his books, and you do need to keep in mind some are pretty old and outdated. He changed his views a lot throughout his career and other people (like the ones who created Curable) have built a great foundation upon his basic ideas.
