Did Anyone Get Diagnosed With Fibro Because Of Ptsd?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had fibro appear because of trauma from abuse. I recently went to a doctor that said that my fibro was a result of the trauma I experienced in my life and it has made me distrust everything around me even more than before. I was in an abusive relationship for a long time and finally managed to break off all contact over 2 weeks ago, today I made a mistake and contacted my abuser because of the loneliness of Valentine's day. I didn't want to do it because I'll… read more

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 5 years prior to being diagnosed with PTSD.

Hi, I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia since 2006. I was in a very abusive marriage for many years and had children. I eventually left my husband when the violence and control started to be used on our children. I was stalked by him and after a 2 year court case was able to move house. I met my now husband during this time and he was a rock. After moving my children had counselling and we then discovered he had sexually abused the children. I had no idea it was going on and it hit me very hard. It was st this point i was diagnosed with PTSD and Fibromyalgia brought on by the PTSD. I did discover a few years later that my medical records had question marks of fibromyalgia when i was in my 20's but i was never told. So i had some symptoms which erupted due to the PTSD. I still suffer daily with fibromyalgia and it has got worse over time but I've learnt to live with it.Ive had to change my life and accept its a new way to live. It takes time but you will get there, you have to realise the fibromyalgia won't go away.
Good Luck

I was sexually abused as a child by thre men from the age of 8 to 10 years of age I was wondering if PTSD could have contributed to my diagnosis of fibromyalgia

You know i think you are awesome young lady. Dont be sad about valentines day. I get that way too especially when you see lots of women getting roses etc. but i agree with marciaclontz above. Make that happy life surround yourself with those who love you and most important love yourself. My kitty is still so sick all congested not eating or drinking or peeing. Shes on so much meds. Goes back to vet again tommorrow. Happy valentines day, lent and mardi gras.

Hi there, so sorry to here of all your abuse...I had to have 3/4 of my large bowel removed in 2006 as I had been diagnosed with a Redundant Colon. As I was recovering at home 6weeks later my 1st husband raped me and all my stitches blew. God I was in so much pain 😫.
Those two components later led me to a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia in around 2014. I just walked into the GP and wrote a list of my symptoms and my GP confirmed it.
