Members responded to someone worried about leaving their healthcare job due to chronic pain and exhaustion, with most sharing that ESA (Employment and Support Allowance) is available whether an employer terminates someone on medical grounds or if they leave themselves, though the process may differ. Several members recommended contacting the local Citizens Advice Bureau for help completing forms, speaking with occupational health to formally document being unfit for work, and visiting the Job Centre to apply for both ESA and PIP (Personal Independence Payment) if the condition qualifies as a disability. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of navigating benefits while managing pain and fatigue, with members offering encouragement to let doctors and assessors see the full reality of their struggles and reassuring that while the system is not perfect, support is available.

I’m from Canada and here it is called Disability!! I would think as long as your doctor or health care agrees you can no longer do your job, you should be fine! Worrying about all this shit causes stress which causes flare ups and worse pain! The fatigue is because your body is fighting your pain 24/7 so you of course are tired! One word of advice, let whoever needs to, see you cry from the pain you are in and how debilitating this illness is! Good luck to you and big hugs!!!

I’ve been of work for well over a year now and I get ESA. My employer decided to contact occupational health. I had a phone call from them regarding why I’ve been off work etc and told me that I was unfit for work as they could not accomodate my needs. I also have my ESA assessment in a couple of weeks but im petrified. I think you can apply for ESA if you are/aren’t working

My employer of 26 years finished me on health grounds - they stated I was incapable of doing my job. In 45yrs of working I had to start applying for benefits and I was awarded ESA. Not sure if it works the same if you leave your job rather than your employer finishing you on health grounds. Try speaking to your local CAB they can be very helpful with these situations - they completed all my forms for me. Hope things work out for you.

I'm from England. I'm on ESA. I'm only able to work 10hours a week because of my health.
If you go into your local Job Centre they will be able to help you out. They helped me get ESA and PIP. If you have Fibro you can be classed as disabled, so then you can get PIP.
Money side of things this helps me get through themail stress. It's not perfect - because I would prefer to be working full time, but I now I can't do it. This is the next best thing.
