Members dealing with fibromyalgia and night sweats shared a range of strategies, including using fans, cooling gel pillows, keeping dry nightshirts nearby, layering clothing, and trying natural remedies like black cohosh and evening primrose oil. Several members described the severity of their sweating, from waking up drenched to needing to change sheets mid-night, with some finding temporary relief through cold water, ice packs on the neck, or keeping their head and feet uncovered. A recurring theme was that fibromyalgia disrupts the body's ability to regulate temperature, causing frustrating swings between feeling freezing cold and overheating, with members encouraging each other to prepare for both extremes and not give up on finding what works.

No lie...I started keeping a towel by the bed and sometimes put a folded sheet under me in the bed. When I'd go out, I'd sweat so bad strangers would ask if I was OK, like they thought I was ready to keel over. I think it was really the pain meds and not the fibro. When I stopped the opiates, the worst of the sweating ceased. So sorry...I feel for you.

I have read that fibro affects the thermal regulatory center in our brains so that we do not regulate temperature correctly...meaning we are hot at inappropriate times and cold at other times...for me I may be freezing one minute and sweating the next. Best advice is to layer when you dress and always carry a sweater or light jacket...be prepared to be both hot and cold as you never know.
