yes. definitely get a lawyer. I was turned down once and got a lawyer. They filed the appeal and I was denied the second time. I went in front of the judge with the lawyer and got approved finally.It took almost two years but the lawyer made it so much easier on mme. They get a percentage of your back pay from when you applied till you are approved. I think they got about $2,000. It was well worth it. Just remember you will be turned down at least once, maybe twice. don't get discouraged because you will probably get it if you have enough information to give them. If you are applying, try to get all of your doctors papers together to turn it to social security. All tests that have been done and all appointments with every doctor that you have been to. It will be a big help to your case. The more information you can give them, the better chance you will get it. Good luck.

@A MyFibroTeam Member. I went off work and then applied. I think it is better if you don't work when you apply. I was lucky and was still living with my mom so i could go without an income. Maybe call an disability attorney and meet for a consultation which is usually free. My attorney was a big help but you have to do all of the foot work getting papers and stuff from doctors. You will have to pay for copies you get from doctors. Good luck and ask me any more questions that you may have.

What Lisa said is correct just make sure you get an attorney that specializes in disability and doesn’t charge you if you don’t win. They will do a free consultation first and also see if your Drs will write letters saying you cannot work.

I was denied 2 years ago. I appealed and was shot down again. I just recently contacted a lawyer that had me file again and said contact them if I get turned down again. Sure enough they denied me again so I'm in the process of recontacting the law office again. There are different types of disability I don't have enough time working in the past 5 years so I had to file for ssdi which is long term social security disability. They want you to give up like initially had. Keep at it. Most lawyers do that while if you don't win you don't pay thing. Also if you have a situation like mine you'll have a find one that does that type of disability because not all of them do. I spent a lot of wasted time talking with offices that didn't have an attorney that could even do that type. The thing keeping me hanging on to hope is that my doctor is blown away that they denied me. She said "WHAT?! How do they expect you to work like this?!!"
