Hi all,
I’m just curious how many other people experience memory loss. Mine has increased two fold and it’s almost scary! I’ll go to movies and not only forget what it was about two days late, but I will forget I saw it all together! I could go on and on but I feel like I have early on set Alzheimer’s!

Anyone else experience this?

Members opened up about experiencing significant memory loss with fibromyalgia, sharing stories of forgetting entire movies they'd watched, repeating questions moments after asking them, and struggling to recall basic information at work or mid-conversation. Several members described practical strategies that help them cope, including writing everything down on sticky notes, setting phone reminders, using memory games and puzzles to keep the brain engaged, and taking supplements like Ginkgo, while others noted that medications like Gabapentin and Lyrica can worsen memory issues. A recurring theme was the fear and embarrassment of cognitive decline at young ages, with many members finding comfort in knowing they aren't alone and that fibro fog is a recognized symptom affecting over half of fibromyalgia patients, though the isolation and social withdrawal it causes remains a painful reality for many.

I stay away from people as much as I can. Embarrassing to have conversations I always get lost in conversations. I have only a very small circle of friends and they r close friends. They understand me. And I don't worry, if I forget. They say it will come back to u.

Yes. I don't know how many times I have asked my kids or hubby the same thing not even 5 mins after I last asked it
They have just learnt to live with it now and understand. I don't tell all my siblings etc the full extent of my illnesses.

I do the same thing. I can't remember nothing anymore. I can read a page in a book 5 different times and then can't recall reading it or what is was about. Makes me feel stupid, inadequate, a failure.

Fibromyalgia and cognitive dysfunction
Studies have shown that over 50% of patients with fibromyalgia suffer from mental confusion and decline of memory and mental faculties.

Mental confusion along with difficulty in concentration and loss of memory is often termed “fibro fog”. These features are termed cognitive dysfunction and include common manifestations such as:-

forgetfulness and memory problems - tests reveal that the memory components affected include impaired working memory, episodic memory and semantic memory -they have a poorer free recall
concentration difficulties and attention problems
poorer verbal fluency and verbal knowledge
difficulty in focussing
impaired judgement
impaired ability to perform simple cognitive tasks
slowed or altered speech and other speech problems
Fibromyalgia research
There are studies that have compared the cognitive skills and abilities of fibromyalgia patients with healthy controls of similar age and educational status.

Results showed that fibromyalgia patients performed worse than their healthy counterparts but had intact speed of information processing.

It's terrible! That's the worst of my symptoms because it's so scary. I am 28 and I know memory loss and fibro fog is a symptom but sometimes I feel like it is something more. I have often repeated myself in conversations with my husband and now it's sort of an ongoing joke that I can't remember anything without writing it down. It's mostly short term but I've found there are a quite a few things from my past that have slipped my mind also. I feel for you! :(
