Members widely related to experiencing major muscle spasms and twitches throughout the day and night, with many describing spasms in the back, legs, shoulders, arms, neck, and feet that can last for hours and sometimes resemble involuntary kicking. Several members shared helpful strategies including over-the-counter magnesium supplements, Epsom salt baths, magnesium oil or lotion to avoid laxative effects, heating pads, muscle relaxers like tizanidine, folic acid and iron supplements for low levels, stretching through the pain when in public, and prescription medications like ropinirole for restless leg syndrome. A recurring theme was the unpredictable and persistent nature of these spasms as part of living with an autoimmune disease, with members emphasizing the importance of finding what works for your body and getting bloodwork checked for deficiencies that may worsen symptoms.

You can get the benefits of magnesium without its laxative effect by using magnesium oil or lotion, which are absorbed through the skin.

Restless legs can be immediately by taking roprinerol/reship.

I was getting terrible restless legs and I mentioned it to my Dr and I am now on folic acid x1 a day and also ferrous fumarate x3 a day, my folate serum is low hence the folic acid and my iron levels are borderline hence the ferrous fumarate so maybe worth getting a blood test checked for these as I am not getting the restless legs half as bad now, some days there is nothing which is a total relief x

I was getting terrible spasms in my legs. So bad that it actually looked like I was trying to kick something. I spoke to my GP and he suggested over the counter Magnesium twice a day. I also enjoy Epson Salt baths that is also magnesium. Word to the wise, magnesium can act almost like a laxative so go slowly. Hope this helps.๐Ÿ˜Š

I get horrible spasms. Mostly in my back and they usually last for a couple of hours. If I am in public and not able to get comfortable at home, I try to stretch through them as much as it hurts. If i am lucky enough to be at home when they happen, I lay on my heating pad and take muscle relaxers.

I get muscle spasms in my back. What helps is that I supplement with magnesium, iron, turmeric, calcium, D3, K2, Vitamin C, multi-vitamin, CoQ10, probiotic, and take tizanidine (a muscle relaxer), and acetaminophen for the pain. I used to take Percocet, but I was taken off of that.
