Members deeply resonated with the exhausting reality that talking can feel like too much effort with fibromyalgia, describing how even simple conversations drain their energy and leave them needing to withdraw from people, including close family. Several members shared specific challenges including difficulty concentrating on what others are saying, struggling to form coherent replies, experiencing brain fog that makes speech slurred or garbled, and losing the confidence they once had in social or professional settings. A recurring theme was the frustration of not being understood by others who can't see the invisible toll of pain and fatigue, combined with the added burden of explaining a condition many people have never heard of or dismiss as being in your head.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I have been having this issue of not understanding people when they talk I am unable to decipher what they are saying to me. Either I have to just ignore it or it drives me crazy trying to figure out why this is happening. Sometimes it is so bad that it just sounds like garble to me. I have excellent hearing but I was seriously thinking to make an ear appointment to see if something was wrong. So is this truly another symptom of fibro? Hugs

Oh yes. Feel like that often. On those days I avoid people. Even don't feel like talking to husband or hearing him talk....just leave me alone. It's to hard to concentrate on what people are saying and thinking of a sound and coherent reply.

Definitely! And often, when that mood strikes, I get a massive brain fog and can't concentrate enough to understand what someone said. Very frustrating.

Yes, for sure. I even find it hard to listen.

Sups all my energy then brain fog follows with slurring words!
