Members rallied around someone feeling too proud or embarrassed to use a walking stick despite needing one, with the overwhelming consensus being that self-care matters far more than what strangers might think. Several members shared that they began using canes, mobility scooters, or motorized carts in their 20s and 30s, describing how these tools improved their balance, reduced pain, and enhanced their quality of life, while others found reassurance from loved ones who viewed the aids positively. A recurring theme was the internal struggle between pride and practicality, with many encouraging gradual use to build comfort and confidence while letting go of judgment from others who simply do not understand.

Who cares what others think. If they have bad thoughts then they are bad people not you. Swallow that pride and get that cane and walk. I have used a cane off and on since I was in my 20's. I asked my sons way latter if it embarassed them and they said it seemed like those rich ladies that walk with a cane. Try it for a little while like when you walk and then gradually increase the amt of time you use it and maybe you will be more comfortable.

I was too embarrassed to use a walking stick or a wheelchair although at times ive had to consider both. Also because the pain moves around so much, I'd have to keep swapping sides, carry it then my wrist would probable hurt instead, it seems inconvenient at the same time as helpful.

I do wonder though, if in the long run being too proud in this regard has benefited me. I have to keep assuring myself as there's nothing structurally wrong with my body, exercise won't damage me but poor posture and weakened muscles through lack of use most definately will!

But if you need it or it helps then it doesn't matter what other people think, it's your quality of life.

I don't know if anyone else feels the same.
