Dysfunction in the sacroiliac joint, or SI joint, is thought to cause low back and/or leg pain. The leg pain can be particularly difficult, and may feel similar to sciatica or pain caused by a lumbar disc herniation. It is the most common type of back issue and injury. Ice and exercise helps a lot! If it gets severe or is causing you to be unable to stand up straight, lay on the floor with a chair or ottomon under your legs so that your legs bend 90 degrees at the hip and form a table top. This takes pressure off of the lower sacral area. Anti-inflammatory medication and ice alternating with heat helps control inflammation and pain. Of course, it is best to see your doctor and they can do an MRI to make sure there is nothing more. I have several herniated discs in my lower back, and I have had fusion surgery on two cervcal discs. I've been dealing with the back stuff for many years, so I feel your pain! Yoga and walking help alleviate a lot of stiffness and pain and keeps me mobile! I also use a massage unit and tens unit. Good luck!

Yes! MRI showed several herniated discs which are causing stenosis, i.e. crushing my spinal cord. Also some arthritis in the facet joints. Discs can also bulge and cause pressure on the nerves, and this can cause pain down the legs. The most common is the sacroiliac area, which can easily get injured and irritated. I find that yoga helps the most with the lower back and leg pain!

I had this a few weeks ago. Scared to death! I've already had cervical spine surgery. Have had stiffness in neck since then. Now I have 3 arthritic bone spurs in it. Anyway, the LAST thing I wanted was back surgery! Went to doc.......it was a kidney infection. I've never been so happy to have one of those! 😜😀
